Sight Words

Sight Words Program
Sight words will come home each week in your child's duo-tang. Feel free to cut these up and use them as flashcards. I suggest creating three different piles with your flash cards; "Mastered", "Almost Mastered", and "Still Learning".
If you find your child already knows the ones that are sent home in our weekly homework, feel free to build on those! To challenge your child, try spelling the words or putting them into a full sentences!
Suggested Games
Here are some games that make practicing sight words a little more fun!

1) Spotlight or I spy: You may post the words around the room and look for a specific word using a flashlight. Take turns being the teacher. You may also turn off the lights for an added challenge.

2) Go-Fish: You can play this just like the game of cards. You will need two sets of flash cards.

3) Puzzles: You may make puzzle pieces out of the words and have your child put together a certain word.

4) Sand Tracing: While students do not need to know how to spell the words for memory, they may have fun tracing the words in sand or even a package of jello-mix. After they trace the word they should tell you what the word is before they get to trace the next word.

5) Memory: You could have the same words on separate flash cards and play a memory game. Before they get to add their winnings to their pile, they must be able say the word.

6) Lego Building: Write words on lego pieces. In order for your child to get a block they must be able to say the word. Let them build a creation with their winning blocks.
